Every domain name is translated into numbers as an IP address when it is entered into a browser’s address bar. Without DNS there would be no way to relate the two addresses together. Think of it as a phone book for every site on the Internet. You know the person’s name you are trying to call, but not the number.
There is also something knows as “Reverse DNS” which is like when you know the person’s number, but not their name.
